Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that those arriving at the TRNC land border gates will be brought to a point where they will feel that they are coming to a state.

Prime Minister Unal Üstel, After Nicosia, he continued his inspections at the land border gates with Beyarmudu, Akyar and Derinya border gates.

Stating that the first action of the government is to facilitate the passage through land crossing points, Prime Minister Üstel said, “When those who will pass through our gates to the TRNC come to our border gate, we will raise our crossing points to a level where they can see that they have come to a state.”.

According to the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Prime Ministry, Prime Minister Üstel was accompanied by the Minister of Labor and Social Security during the inspections at the land border gates. Hasan Taçoy, UBP Nicosia MPs Ahmet Savaşan and Alişan Şan, Beyarmudu Mayor İlker Edip, Famagusta Police Director Hüseyin Kadir Çete, Director of Foreign Affairs Consular Affairs, Director of Customs, Director of Highways Department were also present.

Prime Minister Unal Üstel’Famagusta Police Director Hüseyin Kadir Çete, who gave information about the border gates in the region, stated that they had some problems especially at the Beyarmudu gate and that the steering wheels of the vehicles were on the right and the cabins were on the left.

Stating that this prevents fast passage at entrances and exits, Çete said that they have initiated work in the area with the help of the people of the region and that the planning and construction department is working on this project to move the cabins from the edges to the middle section.

Explaining that at the western gate, agricultural and livestock farmers in the buffer zone enter and exit to meet their compulsory needs, Çete noted that there are 3 thousand entries and exits daily at the main gate and 350 at the western gate.

Çete pointed out that if there is a structural arrangement in the area, the problem will be solved, but if the bridge falling into the British Bases Area is widened, there will be smooth entry and exit.

Giving information to the Prime Minister about the Derinya border gate connected to Famagusta, Çete stated that 1500 people entered and 1500 people left through the gate.

Akyar stated that they only experienced personnel shortage at the border crossing.

EDIP: WE EXPECT THE PROJECT TO BE ACCELERATED

Beyarmudu Mayor İlker Edip, on the other hand, said that they have been experiencing difficulties in the region due to the intense crossings in recent periods.

Stating that the people of the region as well as those who pass through are experiencing difficulties due to congestion, Edip said, “If the project is accelerated, passage will increase. With the completion of the work on the bridge, we will be able to give good news to the people of the region.”.

Prime Minister Unal Üstel, He stated that one of the biggest complaints of our people before and after he took office was the congestion at the land border gates.

Referring to the importance of the Beyarmudu land border crossing, Üstel said that Larnaca Airport adds value to the gate due to its proximity.

Stating that the border gate is one of the most active gates, Üstel said, “We came to see the authorities on site to solve the problems together. In the light of the information we received from our Police Organization and the Mayor, we will accelerate the project, which has already started to work, and solve it quickly. This is not an issue to be dragged out. The government is sensitive to these issues. One of our first actions is to ensure entry and exit by making arrangements at the land entry gates. We will also increase personnel or cabins where necessary.”.

Stating that they have seen the problems that our people have expressed from time to time at the land border gates they visited throughout the day today, Üstel stated that they will discuss and solve the problems in the commission formed as of Monday.
